XR Mission by Salomon

Salomon, the innovative outdoor brand, Introduces XR Mission,  All terrain trail running shoes with specific men’s and  women’s designs and constructions. XR Mission  is for runners who train regularly and  vary their workouts.

Light, flexible,  unbelievably comfortable, the XR Mission  is the newest member of Salomon’s award-winning XR family  of door  to trail running shoes. “The XR Mission  is a trail running shoe for people who want to take their training seriously and  want lightweight and  flexibility,” explains Jeff Dill, Salomon’s Product Line Manager for Trail Running Footwear.

The XR Mission  is not simply  a slimmed-down version of the very  popular(but  higher mileage) XR Crossmax. New from the ground up, XR Mission  is light and  responsive with a women’s specific version. The heart of the shoe is the OS muscle and  tendon, Salomon’s patented cushioning midsole and  energy returning tendon system. It cushions shocks while improving heel  to toe transition, making the shoe simply easier to run in.  With a Contagrip™ outsole, XR Mission  naturally adapts to variances in terrain, providing great grip and  rebound on any surface.

XR Mission  has  a host of comfort features that specifically address the most critical issues runners typically contend with. Sensiflex™  is a soft mesh  fabric,  coated with flexible  TPU and  placed on the metatarsal area of the foot. This provides great foot support in the forefoot, but  reduces bunions that occur in about 30% of runners. Add internal Sensifit and Quicklace, and  the Mission  adapts comfortably to almost any foot.

XR is also specifically tailored to the morphology and  motion of men  and women, respectively. XR Mission  Women  is the first shoe built  with Women’s Specific Ride. In addition to  a specific last shape, asymmetrical fit that wraps medially to support a higher arch  and  taller instep, common among women, and  thicker foam  around the heel,  XR Mission Women  has  more  and  deeper flex grooves to accommodate a lighter average weight and  more  rigid foot, also common in women. “Developing the XR Mission  was very  much  two different projects,” explains Dill. “Although they  look similar, it was critical throughout the process to define specific fit and  performance characteristics for each gender. We have given women a shoe that is designed for them in every way.”

Earth Run 2012

Earth Run was a real good run! More or less 7,000 runners, that includes Team Titans participated the run for the benefit of GREENPEACE. Well nothing to complain about this race. It was a big improvement from last year in terms of hydration. This year's event is managed by ADEVENTS MANILA.

My unofficial time for the 16km race is 1:35.

Thoughts on the race:
  1. Very affordable race. Php 300 for 3k/5k/10k and Php 400 for 16k/21k. Php 50 discount for early registrants  from March 9 to April 1.
  2. Lots of water stations! - Ice cold water provided.
  3. Overflowing bananas.
  4. Finisher's medal for 16km and 21km runners.
  5. Loot bag containing avea papaya whitening soap, antifungal cream, toothpaste, mane 'n tail shampoo sachet, potato crisp chips
  6. Maynilad shower along the route.
  7. Nice singlet design.
  8. Lots of raffle items for runners.
Areas for Improvement:
  1. Distribution of wrong singlet sizing.
  2. Gunstart interval for each category.
  3. Kilometer marker.
Some photos from the event.

I'd have to say that I have participated in events more pricey than this and is less organized, so, for the Php 350, it was all worth it!

Congrats to the organizers of Earth Run 2012! Very organized and very affordable. See you again next year!

Takbo Para Sa Banahaw - Second Edition

Earlier this morning, we leveled-up our regular weekend race/run. We joined Takbo para sa Banahaw (Part 2) event held at Lucban, Quezon. Too bad only four members of Team Titans were able to join this race. Karen and I registered for 24k, Rusell ran for Lily's 12k kit and Jervin doing a 6k.

We arrived at Lucena past 11pm last night via JAC Liner Bus. We stayed at Orenas Inn located at the town proper of Lucban.  The place is near the starting line for all the categories which is the SLSU Campus.

My unofficial time is 2:32 and ranked 24 based on the  number given upon crossing the finish line.

Thoughts on the race:
  1. Super challenging route, rolling hills everywhere!
  2. Hydration stations are too far from each other. They only serve water on hydration stations.
  3. No kilometer markers, only turnaround point for all the distances.
  4. Gunstart for 24km started late.
  5. Nice nature view for the run.
  6. Medal (nice except the itchy lace)
  7. Massage for 24km finishers...two thumbs up!
  8. There are also raffle items for runners.
After the race, we have our breakfast at Sevilla's restaurant. We tried their lucban longganisa bfast and pancit habhab.

Runrio Trilogy Awards Night

I attended the Runrio Trilogy Awards Night last February 20, 2012. This is the gathering of all runners who completed the longest distances in all of the three legs (21k, 21k and 32k). The event was hosted at Decagon Theater - Silver City in Ortigas. Runners who completed the trilogy were all given an Afroman medal and Afroman loyalty shirt. More or less 300 recipients (including me) are present at the gala night.

Special recognition were also given to the fastest, youngest and oldest trilogy finisher. Also, Banjo of ulikblogrunner.wordpress.com receives the best blogger award from Runrio.

Below are some photos from the event.

I've been in CORON!

I was lucky enough to visit Coron, Palawan last month (February 14 to 17). The fare I got for Busuanga via Cebu Pacific Airlines is Php 1,181.50 and managed to get tour package for 7 pax (all in) c/o Mommita's Place amounting to Php 5,390 each.

Vacation Highlights

Mt. Tapyas - It was on our first day when we climbed Mt. Tapyas.  To get to the top, you would need to take 700+ steps. The trail to its summit was safe since it was paved and concrete. A huge steel cross is situated at the peak of Mt. Tapyas.

The Cross at the peak.

The Lakwatseros! (summit of Mt. Tapyas)

Maquinit Hot Springs - After climbing Mt. Tapyas, we headed to Maquinit Hot Springs to relax and rejuvenate. It  is the only known saltwater hot spring in the Philippines. You can reach the place after your island hopping activity since your boat can duct right near the mangroves or you can reach the resort by land by hiring a tricycle.

Environmental Compliance Certificate at the entrance of the hot spring.
Soothing our tired muscles and feet. SARAP!

Waling Waling Island - Also called Bulog Uno island. Small paradise indeed!

White sandbar!
at the peak of Waling Waling Island.
Banana Island Resort - A beautiful island with not so fine white sand. It even have some dead corals on the shore, aqua shoes is a must here when swimming.

Twin Lagoon - is two salt water lakes separated by a narrow opening. Advisable to go here when it is low tide, you can swim across the narrow opening to get to the other lake. When high tide the opening is completely submerged and you'll have to swim/dive through it.

scared but enjoying the blue water of the lake

Kayangan Lake - also sometimes referred to as Blue Lagoon, is said to be the cleanest lake in the country. We climb approximately 10 minutes worth of steep steps up a small clearing just to see the magnificent view. At the top is the perfect spot from which to take photographs of the place.

Unfortunately, we are not able to visit the Siete Pecados Island, it was raining hard when we arrived at the snorkelling area. On my next visit, it will be my priority on my itinerary.

Next adventure >>>  CDO (November 2012) and El Nido (February 2013)!
